Berlin Wall

A remaining section of the wall, which has lots of info nearby. Amazing to realise how it affected people during the 28 years it was up.

Reichstag dome

It's worth queing for though. The dome is stunning. Great design, great views, lots of eco features. Well worth every penny of the admission fee (Nowt!) and the queing.

Reichstag

This is the queue to get in.

Brandenburg Gate

Just to prove that it really was Berlin that we were in, here is Michaela in front of the Brandenburg Gate.

In Hamburger Bahnhof art gallery

This is a really nice art gallery. An ex-railway station that's been nicely converted. Not all of the art was good but there was plenty to see and lots of it was realy interesting.

Food

We're in a morrocan restaurant and it's really nice. A bit like Demittri's but without the wine!

A german market

Just like being in Manchester!

Berlin street

View from our hotel window. Just here for two nights but a nice break.

Wonder

New music with BBC and Salford Choral Society. World premiere today at Salford Uni and this is some of the accompanying art, created in Salford schools. Nice event and some of the music was very good.

Bishop Frank Sergeant.

Delivering a talk on canon Peter Green, former Rector of St Phil's and Sacred Trinity. Good crowd here for it at Manchester Cathedral.

Zoe's birthday pizza

Our Zoe is 17 today and we've been for a ride on the wheel, done some shopping and come to Dough. A good time is being had by all.

We're in Wagamama and Eloise is being very adventurous in her eating. Well done her. Abby had plain rice!

Members of the BBC phil.

Nice concert. Just 6 of them in different combinations. All of it sounded lovely.

First day at High School.

Our baby starts secondary school today, Trinity in Manchester. I'm sure she'll be fine but it's a bit scary and makes of feel old!

Saturday, 29 August 2009

We've just started a queue.

We're right at the front and now it's a very big queue! We're going to see Ockham's Razor. It may be very good. We're at Greenbelt...

Our new tent.

We've bought a rather nice canvas tent. We thought we'd better try it out so here it is.

Our crop of spuds

Eloise has just dug up our crop from the patio bags we've grown then in. Not a huge pile but still very impressive.

Saturday, 25 July 2009

Beginning of a journey.

Michaela and Brian setting off for John O'Groats. They're not doing it all today though!

Rain drops on Bay leaf

It's a shame when it rains but the raindrops on green leaves look wondrous, and the plants need a bit of rain. This photo of raindrops on a bay leaf in our back garden looks so good Microsoft could put it on a computer.

The Sight Below

Live at Sacred Trinity. Awesome! There are some more photos on my picasa pages: http://picasaweb.google.com/the.andy.salmon/SvarteGreinerTheSightBelowSimonScott?feat=directlink. All the music was excellent but I have been listening to the Sight Below album, Glider and it is truly lovely.

Dodgey bit of cycle route

Not the best bit of route 6. Not easy to cycle on.

Crossing the M60

Back on route 6

Route 6 goes right past our house and so as we joined it in Haslingden it definitely felt like we were on the home stretch. The final count for the journey from my bike computer (that at one stage stopped working whenever I went over 16 miles an hour - not sure why!) was that we did 119 miles over two days and averaged 9.6 mph. My bike computer is definitely a little erratic because is also says that my maximum speed was 126 mph! The other stuff is close to reality but that just isn't.

On our way home now.

Some of these hills hurt!
