Chetham's School of Music Big Band

I'm not a huge Jazz fan but the young People of Chetham's sounded fantastic. The Trios and Quartets sounded good but when they all played together it was a wonderful full-on sound. Great.

Manchester music scene

This article in Fridays Guardian: http://m.guardian.co.uk/?id=102202&story=http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/jan/22/manchester-egyptian-hip-hop
sees the Manchester scene as really, where it's at. They focus on
four bands, one played at Trinity, one is playing at St Phil's next
month and one recorded a couple of pieces for their album at St
Phil's. I reckon that means we're pretty cutting edge ourselves!

Me and Zoë sledging

This afternoon we went up to Peel Park with a body board, a large tray and this camping roll mat and sledged down the hill. The tray really flew but the roll mat had room for two as you can see here. The expression on Zoë's face says it all!

Lots of Snow today in Salford

Today in Salford and Manchester everything ground to a halt. Schools were closed, people didn't go into work, people spent time building snow men/women/teddies and talking to their neighbours. It occured to me that actually the world might be a better place with a bit more snow as we seemed to all slow down (and those that didn't often regretted it). We spent time admiring beauty, helping our neighbours and relaxing with a warm drink - all good. Okay there are some people who are stressed by it and some people feel very isolated but on the whole it felt like a good lesson in how we ought to slow down a bit!

I've posted some photos from the day (Starting about 6.30 am) on Picasa here: http://picasaweb.google.com/the.andy.salmon/DeepSnowInSalford?feat=directlink. Spend a moment looking at them and enjoy!

Snow, lots of snow!

The snow outside our front door is about 6 inches deep. A big cheer went up in our house when the radio said that Trinity CE school is closed today!

Cycle ride.

I've not been on my bike for a couple of weeks but finally I've got out. Not a long ride and stuck to the main roads but at least I got out. It felt good! This view is on Bury New Road on the ride back from Prestwich.

Ice & leaves

I went for a walk this afternoon in Clifton Country Park. It was surprisingly cold and icey (the ice has all gone round us) but I got some great photos. You can see some of them on Picasa, here: http://picasaweb.google.com/the.andy.salmon/CliftonCountryPark01012010?feat=directlink
